Gloria Nonaka

“Architecture is the incorruptible witness of history. Because we cannot talk of a great building without recognizing in it the testimony of an era, its culture, its society, its intentions…”

As a teenager, Gloria read this phrase from a Nobel Prize writer Octavio Paz, and it had a great impact on her. From then on, she saw buildings with more interest, from the house where she lived with her family, to the most spectacular building she had ever seen, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City, which is located in the city where she was born.

Even though she had a great admiration for architecture and an attraction to architectural composition; she enrolled in Law School. In the end she decided to proceed with Architecture and obtained her BS at the Instituto Tecnologico de Tijuana; the city in which she was also raised.

She is a registered Architect in Mexico. She worked in the construction field in the Tijuana-San Diego area, in the private and public sectors. She is in process of obtaining a Cost Estimator Certification at SDSU. Her main goal is become a licensed architect in California

Being part of Platt Whitelaw Architects means learning something new every day. Their commitment in the community is inspiring. One of her goals is to participate in sustainable historic preservation projects.

Recently, by fate, two puppies came into her life. From then on, her interest in animals grew and this has led her to meet people involved in helping stray dogs. Right now, her goal is committing her help to some of those associations.

In her free time, Gloria likes to enjoy time with family, especially her parents, sister and nephew.
