Yumi Furukawa

Yumi originates from Osaka, the second-largest city in Japan, where she spent her formative years. She pursued her academic journey at Senri Kinran University in Japan, focusing on English literature. Upon relocating to San Diego, she enrolled at Mesa College and successfully attained an associate’s degree in interior design.

Yumi holds certifications as an NCIDQ (National Interior Design Certified) and CID (California certified interior designer), both of which were earned in 2008. Her affinity for interior and architectural commercial design arises from her belief in the transformative power of spatial arrangement to evoke distinct emotions within environments – to make people feel a certain way in their space.

At Platt/Whitelaw, Yumi finds particular fulfillment in her contributions to hospitality and lighting design. Her strong interest in food service fuels her aspirations to craft innovative restaurant design.

In her free time, Yumi’s passion for cooking takes center stage, with a substantial portion (50%!) of her culinary ventures being inspired by Asian recipes. In addition to this, she studies Feng Shui and color psychology, areas she has ardently explored for numerous years. Yumi is always always enthusiastic and open to discuss these topics with anyone who asks!
