Samantha was born and raised in San Diego. She graduated in 2016 from Fordham University with a dual major in Fine Arts and Art History. A curiosity for how design can shape the human experience led her to pursue her Master’s in Architecture from NewSchool of Architecture & Design.
The contrast between living in New York after growing up in San Diego shaped her appreciation for architecture and urbanism. Her first memory of “appreciating” architecture was during her first trip out of the country to Rome, Italy at 11 years old. Her favorite part about working in architecture is that there is always something to learn, as well as the discipline’s interesting reliance on art, sociology, and science. Samantha is grateful that architecture allows her to work on drawings nearly every day, and visit job sites regularly – there’s nothing more interesting than a building in construction!
At Platt/Whitelaw Architects her responsibilities include supporting production and coordination with consultants, clients, and agencies for projects ranging from schematic design through construction administration. Samantha is currently BIM manager for Balboa Botanical Building, assisting in Construction Administration for Clairemont Canyon Academy, and is project lead for San Ysidro Activity Center.
Outside of work and studying for the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®), you can probably find Samantha planning her next vacation, practicing yoga, skateboarding, or at Petco Park – she’s a giant baseball fanantic and a season ticket holder for the San Diego Padres. One day, she’ll make the time and finally pick up sewing and upholstery as a new hobby.
